This spring, the Sea to Sky Hospice Society established an endowment fund with the Squamish Community Foundation (SCF) with an initial contribution of $10,000. The new fund is a long-term investment in compassionate care for Sea to Sky residents living with life-limiting illness or grief.
The Sea to Sky Hospice Society looks to grow the endowment through donations from the community. Proceeds of the investment will support hospice society programs offered throughout the Sea to Sky corridor, including support groups, counselling, community connection and bereavement packages for those facing end of life, caregivers, and those grieving the loss of a loved one.
“Now more than ever there is a need to provide a safe and accessible layer of support for those in need. The Squamish Community Foundation is a gateway to the community and gives us an opportunity to not only invest in the future of our organization but to also further the reach of the society” says Jen Dunkin, Sea to Sky Hospice Society Chair.
“This new fund will be a lasting legacy supporting family members and individuals at times when it is needed most. We are excited to partner with the Sea to Sky Hospice Society and look forward to growing this endowment fund for years to come.” Suzie Soman, Squamish Community Foundation Chair.
Originating in Squamish, the Sea to Sky Hospice Society offers a range of programming that has been fine-tuned over the years by board, staff and more than 60 volunteer members. The organization recently realized a dream to provide a dedicated space for hospice care with the addition of The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Community Hospice.
The Squamish Community Foundation is entrusted with managing an ever-growing portfolio of endowment funds which are contributed to by both individual and corporate donors. Using annual fund distributions, SCF re-invests in Squamish through grant and fund programs that support important community initiatives in areas like culture, health and the environment, creating positive and lasting change.
