Community Foundations bring together people who care about their communities. They facilitate philanthropy by partnering with donors to build permanent endowments and other funds from which they support community projects. Because community foundations focus on building permanent endowments, they are able to address long-term community challenges as well as immediate needs.
These are the 3 main roles of a community foundation:
The Squamish Community Foundation (SCF) is an independent, charitable organization dedicated to enriching quality of life in Squamish. The Foundation was created in 2003 to meet the needs of our growing community through the establishment of a locally-based long term institution.
We manage over $300,000 dollars in donor funds and distribute the income to registered charities for community projects. We belong to the Community Foundations of Canada a group of 164 Foundations across Canada. The SCF is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of community leaders who are Squamish residents and whose varied backgrounds are intended to be representative of Squamish's diversity.
